Naud remporte la dernière étape et Lambert-Lemay gagne le championnat

(Lachine, QC) le 12 août, 2014 – Pierrick Naud (Garneau Quebecor) a remporté la dernière étape de la saison 2014 des Mardis Cyclistes présenté par Jean Coutu, avec un chrono de 1:01:44 sur les 50 km, soit une vitesse moyenne de 48.5 km/h. Il a devancé son co-équipier, Simon Lambert-Lemay de justesse au fil d’arrivée. Mathieu Roy (Véloselect), a suivi en troisième position.

« Ce soir, j’ai gagné par un pneu mais j’ai aidé Simon à devenir champion, » a dit Naud. « C’est le fun de rouler à Lachine et devant la grosse foule. Le seul coureur que me faisait peur cette saison était Keeping avant sa chute (pendant l’étape 8). Je suis content de gagner le maillot rouge pour une deuxième année de suite. Je pars bientôt pour faire le Tour de l’Alberta et par la suite, j’espère avoir de bonnes chances d’être sélectionné pour l’équipe nationale pour les deux courses WorldTour (Québec et Montréal) en septembre. »

 « Non, il n’y a pas de rivalité entre moi et Pierrick » affirmait Lambert-Lemay. « On s’entraine ensemble et il va devenir bon. Pierrick m’aide ici et je l’aide ailleurs. Mais le 2 septembre, je retourne à l’école et je vais oublier mon vélo. Je suis content de ne pas avoir eu de casse cette saison. »

 Au total, 126 cyclistes ont pris place sur la ligne de départ, y compris, pour la première fois en 37 ans, deux femmes, Catherine Dessureault (SAS Mazda) et Joëlle Numainville (Optum). Les deux femmes ont fini la course; au cours des années, seulement quatre femmes ont complété cette épreuve: Lyne Bessette, Dessureault, Audrey Lemieux, et Numainville.

 En ce qui concerne le classement général (CG), Lambert-Lemay a fini avec 996 points cumulatifs pour devenir le champion de 2014. Il est suivi de Naud (Garneau Quebecor) avec 925 points et Stephen Keeping (Transports Lacombe) avec 705 points.

 Rebecca Beaumont gagne chez les femmes

 Chez les femmes, Rebecca Beaumont (indépendant) a remporté la course de 24 km devant Marie Soleil Blais (Realdealgears), suivie de d’Audrey Bernard (Stevens The Cyclery) en troisième position. Pourtant, c’est Blais qui gagne championnat avec 415 points, suivie de Bernard, avec 359 points tandis que Beaumont a terminé avec 302 points.

 Du côté des cadets, Thierry Kirouac Marcassa (NCCH) a remporté la course avec un temps de 32:31 sur les 24 km, suivi de deux de ses co-équipiers Jordann Jones en deuxième position et Jake Allaire en troisième. Kirouac Marcassa a remporté le championnat avec 501 points, suivi de Griffin Schwartz (indépendant) avec 300 points et François Barriault (CCB-Ultime) avec 255 points.

 Quant aux minimes, Dawson MacDonald (NCCH) est reparti avec la victoire chez les garçons avec un chrono de 24:18 sur les 16 km. Antoine Dalterio (Espoirs Laval) est devenu champion de la série 2014 avec 501 points. Chez les filles, Sandrine Heroux (CCB Ultime), a remporté la première place tout en écartant de la première place au sein du CG sa co-équipière, Emma Delisle. Heroux est ainsi devenue championne avec 504 points devant Delisle avec 493.

 Il faisait beau et chaud mardi soir à Lachine, la pluie a commencé à tomber seulement lorsque les courses étaient terminées.

Naud wins the last stage, Lambert-Lemay wins the championship

(Lachine, QC) August 12, 2014 – Pierrick Naud (Quebecor Garneau) won the final stage of the 2014 season of Mardis Cyclistes presented by Jean Coutu, with a time of 1:01:44 over the 50 km, giving an average speed of 48.5 km/h. He clipped his teammate, Simon Lambert-Lemay, at the finish. Mathieu Roy (Véloselect) followed in third position.

« I won tonight by just a wheel but I helped Simon to become champion here, » said Naud. « It’s fun to ride in Lachine before the big crowd. The only rider who scared me this season was Keeping before his crash (on stage 8). I am happy to win the red jersey for a second year in a row. I’m leaving soon for the Tour of Alberta and then I hope to have a good chance of being selected for the national team for the two WorldTour races (Quebec and Montreal) in September. «

« No, there is no rivalry between me and Pierrick » said Lambert-Lemay. “We train together. Pierrick helps me here and I help him elsewhere. But on September 2, I’m going back to school and I’ll forget my bike. »

There were 126 riders at the pro-elite start line, including two women, Catherine Dessureault (SAS Mazda) and Joelle Numainville (Optum), for the first time in 37 years. Both women finished; over the years, only four women have completed the senior men’s race: Lyne Bessette, Dessureault, Audrey Lemieux and Numainville.

As regards the general classification (GC), Lambert-Lemay finished with 996 cumulative points to become the 2014champion, followed by Naud with 925 points and Stephen Keeping (Transports Lacombe) with 705 points.

Rebecca Beaumont wins among the women

In the women’s race run earlier in the evening, Rebecca Beaumont (Independent) won the 24 km event ahead of Marie Soleil Blais (Realdealgears), followed by Audrey Bernard (Stevens The Cyclery) in third. However, Blais won the championship with 415 points, followed by Audrey Bernard (The Cyclery Stevens), with 359 points while Beaumont finished with 302 points.

Among the juniors, Thierry Kirouac Marcassa (NCCH) won the race with a time of 32:31 over the 24 km, followed by two of his teammates Jordann Jones in second and Jake Allaire third. Marcassa Kirouac won the championship with 501 points, followed by Griffin Schwartz (independent) with 300 points and François Barriault (CCB Ultime) with 255 points.

As for minimes, Dawson MacDonald (NCCH) took the victory among the boys with a time of 24:18 over the 16 km. But Antoine Dalterio (Espoirs Laval) is the new champion of the 2014 series with 501 points. Among the girls, Sandrine Heroux (CCB Ultime) won the stage, simultaneously bumping her teammate Emma Delisle out of first place in the GC. Heroux thus became champion with 504 points versus 493 for Delisle.

It was sunny and warm Tuesday evening in Lachine, the rain started only after the races were finished.

Kauffmann signe sa 2e victoire cette saison

(Lachine, QC) le 5 août, 2014 – L’australien Jacob Kauffmann (Garneau Quebecor) a signé sa deuxième victoire cette saison, remportant la 9e étape de la 37e saison des Mardis Cyclistes présenté par Jean Coutu, avec un chrono de 1:00:59 sur les 50 km, soit une vitesse moyenne de 48.4 km/h. William Goodfellow (Silber Pro Cycling Team), a fini en deuxième position et un visiteur de New York, Conor Mullervy (Champion System), a suivi en troisième position. Les trois coureurs, ainsi qu’Ugo, Lapierre (Acquisio-ACQ) faisait partie d’un échappé de quatre lors des derniers tours de la course.

« Je suis un peu surpris, a dit Kauffmann. Je ne suis pas un grand sprinteur, mais voila j’ai bien fait récemment (ndlr : il a également gagné l’étape 7 le 22 juillet). Je n’ai pas fait beaucoup d’entrainement non plus. Ma seule façon de gagner une telle course c’est de me mettre dans l’échappé. »

 

Goodfellow disait sensiblement la même chose. « La course ici ne me convient pas et ma seule chance c’est de faire partie de l’échappé. Je menais à 500 mètres de l’arrivée, mais Kauffmann m’a dépassé sur le dernier droit. »

 

« Atteindre le podium est merveilleux, remarquait Mullervy. Ici, à Lachine, c’est différent des courses que je fais aux États-Unis. Le tempo là-bas est plus relaxe entre les sprints intermédiaires. Ici, il faut toujours peser sur le gaz. » L’américain a laissé savoir qu’il avait un horaire de courses chargé, ayant couru dans la Pennsylvanie la fin de semaine dernière et qu’il va courir le Witches Cup demain, à Salem, dans le Massachussetts.

 

Il y a eu 100 cyclistes à la ligne de départ, y compris une femme, Catherine Dessureault (SAS Mazda). Il y avait quatre coureurs de l’équipe new yorkaise, Champion System. Keven Lacombe, un membre illustré de l’ancienne équipe SpiderTech, a couru comme indépendant.

 

En ce qui concerne le classement général (CG), Simon Lambert-Lemay (Garneau Quebecor) a maintenant 779 points cumulatifs et il endossera le maillot jaune (commandité par Jean Coutu) mardi prochain. Il est suivi de Pierrick Naud (Garneau Quebecor) avec 704 points et ce dernier portera le maillot rouge (Specialized-Quilicot) le 12 août. Stephen Keeping (Transports Lacombe), qui était absent ce soir en raison d’une blessure de genou subie la semaine passée, est troisième avec 520 points. On espère qu’il retournera pour la finale la semaine prochaine et alors il devrait endossera le maillot vert (Desjardins caisse populaire Provost de Lachine).

 

 

Marie Soleil Blais gagne chez les femmes

Chez les femmes, Marie Soleil Blais (Realdealgears) a remporté la course de 24 km, suivie de Rebecca Beaumont (indépendant) et de Anne-Marie Morin (indépendant) en troisième position. Maintenant, c’est également Blais qui mène le CG avec 319 points, suivie d’Audrey Bernard (Stevens The Cyclery), avec 280 points.

 

Parmi les cadets, Jordann Jones (NCCH) a remporté la course en échappé solo, avec un temps de 32:18 sur les 24 km. Il a été suivi de ses co-équipiers Thierry Kirouac Marcassa en deuxième et Josh Shenker en troisième position alors que l’équipe visitante NCCH avait le monopole sur le podium. Kirouac Marcassa mène le CG avec 391 points, suivi de Griffin Schwartz (indépendant) avec 250 points.

 

Quant aux minimes, Dawson MacDonald (NCCH) est reparti avec la victoire chez les garçons avec un chrono de 23:51 sur les 16 km, tandis que plusieurs habitués des Mardis soient partis aux Jeux de Québec. L’un des absents, Antoine Dalterio (Espoirs Laval) mène toujours le CG avec 431 points. Chez les filles, Iris Gabelier (CCB Ultime), une pee wee, a remporté la première place, mais c’est Emma Delisle (CCB Ultime Vélo) qui mène le CG avec 395 points.

 

Il faisait beau mais frais mardi soir à Lachine, avec une température ressentie de 21 C. et de faibles vents. La grande finale des Mardis Cyclistes est présentée mardi prochain, le 12 août, pour clôturer la 37e saison de Il y aura une épluchette du blé d’inde et des feux d’artifices. Le circuit des Mardis Cyclistes est situé autour du Parc Lasalle dans l’arrondissement de Lachine (STM autobus 90). La course à la coupe minime débutera à 17h30, suivie par la compétition catégorie cadet, femmes, (18h), en terminant par la grande course à la coupe Pro-Élite à 18h50. Les courses sont gratuites pour les spectateurs.

Kauffmann takes stage 9 for 2 wins this season

(Lachine, QC) August 5, 2014 – Jacob Kauffmann (Garneau Quebecor) took his second victory this season, winning the 9th stage of the 37th season of Mardis Cyclistes presented by Jean Coutu, with a time of 1:00:59 over 50 km, averaging 48.4 km / h. William Goodfellow (Silber Pro Cycling Team) followed closely in second place. Conor Mullervy (Champion System Stan’s Notubes), finished third, just ahead of Ugo Lapierre (Acquisio-ACQ); the four cyclists formed a breakaway group for the last few laps of the race.

« I’m a little surprised,” confessed Kauffmann. « I’m not much of a sprinter normally, but here I’ve done OK recently (note: he also won stage 7 on July 22). I haven’t done much training either. I can’t win a bunch sprint; my only way to win a race like this is to put myself in the breakaway. »

Goodfellow said essentially the same thing. « The race circuit here is not to my liking and my only chance is to be part of the breakaway. I was leading 500 meters from the finish, but Kauffmann out-sprinted me on the final stretch. »

« Reaching the podium is wonderful,” said Mullervy. “Here in Lachine it’s different races I do in the USA where the tempo is more relaxed between intermediate sprints. Here we must always press on the gas.” The American added he has a very busy race schedule having competed in Pennsylvania last weekend and competing at the Witches Cup tomorrow in Salem, Massachusetts.

There were 100 riders in the men’s pro-elite race, including one woman, Catherine Dessureault (SAS Mazda). Mullervy’s New York team, Champion System, had four men on the start line. Keven Lacombe, a top rider with the former SpiderTech team, rode as an independent.

Simon Lambert-Lemay (Garneau Quebecor) dominates the general classification (GC) with 779 cumulative points and will wear the leader’s yellow jersey (sponsored by Jean Coutu) next Tuesday. He is followed by teammate Pierrick Naud with 704 points; Naud will wear the red jersey (Specialized-Quilicot) on August 12. Stephen Keeping (Transports Lacombe) is third with 520 points and will wear the green jersey (Desjardins Credit Union Provost Lachine) next week. Keeping was absent tonight due to a knee injury suffered last week, but is expected to compete for the finale.

Marie Soleil Blais wins the women’s race

Among the women, Marie Soleil Blais (Realdealgears) won the 24 km race, followed by Rebecca Beaumont (independent) in second and Anne-Marie Morin (independent) in third. Blais also leads the GC with 319 points, followed by Audrey Bernard (Stevens The Cyclery) with 280 points.

The girls’ race saw a pee wee, Iris Gabelier (CCB Ultime Vélo), win first place, but it’s Emma Delisle (CCB Ultime) leading the GC with 395 points. Many top minime cyclists were away, competing in the Jeux de Quebec.

It was cool and dry Tuesday evening in Lachine, with temperatures in the low 20s and light winds.
Next Tuesday, August 12, sees the Grand Finale of Mardis Cyclistes’ 37th season. To celebrate, there will be a corn roast and fireworks. The Mardis Cyclistes circuit is located around Lasalle Park in the Montreal borough of Lachine (STM bus 90). The minime race begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by cadets and women, (6 p.m.), culminating with the Pro-Elite race at 6:50 p.m. The races are free for spectators.
